About Us
Conor Canavan began surfing in the early 90's while studying at UCG - and it was there at he designed and made his first board in his friend's garage (credit to Mr. OMP). While travelling around the world Conor got the opportunity to surf alongside the crew at Raglan Surf Company in Raglan, New Zealand, which led to spending many an hour with them in their factory. This was his first exposure to a professional surfboard manufacturing operation. Returning home to Ireland Conor continued doing repairs where necessary for himself and for friends - again another's friend's garage (Nigel, appreciate it) was base camp. In 2001 through an introduction by mutual friends Conor met Minzy & Chops, of Beachbeat surfboards fame, this lead to a stint with them over in Cornwall learning the craft of surfboard manufacture. |
Conor opened his first workshop in the Ben Bulben Craft Centre in Rathcormac, Co. Sligo. With demand for repairs growing Conor got the opportunity to extend his workshop and team in 2007 and with the purchase of a shaping machine (APS 3000, the daughter of Miki Langenbach) it also allowed Waxon to bring its production methods in line with international standards. |
